Kidde Recalls Almost 38 million Fire Extinguishers

(Woodside, CA) - Kidde announced on Nov. 2, 2017 a recall of almost 38 million fire extinguishers sold in the United States. The extinguishers may not operate correctly if they become clogged and can potentially require excessive force to discharge them. As well, the nozzle can detach with enough force to cause injury. Kidde recommends consumers should immediately contact Kidde to request a free replacement.
Currently Kidde is aware of one death after emergency responders could not get the recalled fire extinguisher to work. There have been almost 400 reports of problems related to Kidde fire extinguishers.

As the seasons change, it is a great time to check your other fire and life safety equipment as well as doing some regular maintenance of your home appliances.
Woodside Fire Protection District (WFPD) recommends the following:
• Carbon monoxide (CO) alarms are required in all homes. Make sure to install them per the manufacturer’s specifications and test them regularly.
• Smoke alarms expire after ten years, replace old smoke alarms with new 10-year lithium ion batteries alarms and test them monthly to ensure they are working. Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home (even the basement).
• Have heating equipment and chimneys cleaned and inspected every year by a qualified professional.
• Service your dryer by cleaning out the vent pipe or hiring a dryer lint removal
