Water Supply
One and Two Family Dwellings: (2007 CFC) amended
The minimum fire flow shall be 1000 gallons per minute. A water supply for fire protection shall mean a fire hydrant within 500 feet from the building, capable of the required fire flow. The fire flow may be reduced by 50% if the building is provided with an approved automatic sprinkler system.
Exception: An approved storage facility with a minimum of 18,000 gallons of water and a hydrant capable of 1000 gallons per minute within 500 feet of the building. The fire flow may be reduced by 50% if the
building is provided with an automatic sprinkler system.
Land Divisions and Subdivisions:
The minimum fire flow shall be 1000 gallons per minute at 20 p.s.i. residual. Fire hydrants need be 500 feet apart within 500 feet from structures. Hydrants need to meet the required flow for a minimum of 120,000 gallons in storage for fire protection purposes.
General:
All new fire hydrants shall be steamer type having at least one 4-1/2" outlet and one 2-1/2" outlet, all having national standard threads. Fire hydrants may be wet or dry barrel.
A member of the Woodside Fire Protection District shall approve all fire hydrant locations.
Hydrants shall be 500 feet from structures and shall be measured on an approved route in which the engine can safely drive.
HYDRANT NEEDS TO BE OPERABLE PRIOR TO OCCUPANCY!
Water mains and hydrants shall meet American Water Works Standards.
6" water main minimum.
Plans to Include:
Draft Hydrants:
Shall meet standards of NFPA 1142 2007 Edition - Water Supplies for Suburban and
Rural Fire Fighting.
Minimum storage facility is 18,000 gallons.
Hydrant Specifications:
-Elevation between outlet and bottom of source.
-Distance from pipe connection to source to hydrant.
-Calculations indicating fire flow including pipe size and bends.
-Elevation not exceed 15 feet.
-Piping to include kick blocks (24" x 24") at each bend and constructed of materials that will
withstand corrosion and electrolysis.
-Fire department connection is a male 4-1/2" national standard thread and cap.
-The height of the hydrant should be 3 feet off the ground and painted red.
-The Fire District will provide a blue dot.
-The hydrant to be located in the field by a fire official and tested for flow and capacity.
The attached specification shows the approved WFPD hydrant and installation criteria.
A Fire Official must approve the location of the hydrant.
The Fire District will test hydrant for flow and capacity.
Fire District will provide blue dot.
