Current Projects

The following projects represent current and recently completed roadside vegetation management work across the District. This work is carried out under contract with the Town of Woodside and the Town of Portola Valley, and through a multi-year grant partnership with the San Mateo County and Santa Clara County Fire Safe Councils.

California Fire Safe Council Grant — Los Trancos Woods Corridor

A multi-year grant funded through a joint effort between the San Mateo County and Santa Clara County Fire Safe Councils is supporting vegetation management along the Los Trancos Woods corridor. WFPD's Mitigation team has been contracted to lead the roadside vegetation work. The crew took advantage of wet conditions in March to pull French broom along Ramona and Los Trancos Roads. A full project kickoff is scheduled for June 2, 2026, at which point the team will begin comprehensive roadside vegetation management. The project also includes removal of seven eucalyptus trees on Los Trancos Road and two pine trees on Ramona Road. The grant spans three years, providing the opportunity for a second treatment pass.

Town of Woodside — Roadside Vegetation Management

The Mitigation Division is contracted with the Town of Woodside to manage roadside vegetation along Town roadways. The crew has been working along Woodside Drive and recently completed W. Maple Way, which had become significantly overgrown. Work along Woodside Drive will continue with the goal of completing the full corridor. The crew will also address vegetation on Town-owned properties throughout the year.

The Mitigation Division is also contracted with the Town of Portola Valley for roadside vegetation management. Recent work includes French broom removal on Fawn Lane and Upper Alpine Road, as well as maintenance on overgrown sections of Portola Road.
