WPV-Ready helps residents of the Woodside Fire Protection District prepare for the emergencies most likely in our area — wildfire, earthquake, and severe storms — through education, community organizing, and hands-on support. You do not have to join anything or commit to anything. Anyone interested in emergency preparedness is welcome, no matter where you are starting from.

WPV-Ready Nodes

A WPV-Ready Node is a neighborhood-level hub where prepared residents gather, share information, and support each other during an emergency. Nodes are the backbone of the WPV-Ready program — each one is a small, organized group of neighbors who know each other, know their area, and know what to do when normal systems fail.

Nodes don't require special equipment or full-time commitment. They're built on neighbors who've taken the time to prepare — and who are ready to show up for their community when it matters.

Ready Communicators

Ready Communicators are trained volunteers who keep information moving when normal communication systems go down. Using simple handheld radios, they relay messages between their Node, neighboring areas, and the broader WPV-Ready network — including CERT and the Fire District.

It's one of the most accessible roles in the program: no license required, no heavy gear, just the ability to pass clear, calm information when your neighborhood needs it most.

WPV-CERT

WPV-CERT is focused on building the strongest possible volunteer emergency response capability in the community. Organized as a full CERT program — Community Emergency Response Team — trained volunteers learn how to work effectively in teams: putting out small fires, treating common medical conditions, and searching for and extracting victims from damaged buildings.

About EPiC

Both WPV-Ready and WPV-CERT are operated by EPiC — Emergency Preparedness in Communities, Inc. — a non-profit organization within the area covered by the WFPD. EPiC receives funding from WFPD and the towns within its district, and its goal is to promote emergency preparedness knowledge and skills at the citizen and neighborhood level. When a disaster strikes, it could take days to restore communications or reach people who need help. WPV-Ready and WPV-CERT together help individuals help themselves and each other. Neighbors helping neighbors is how we succeed.
