Local Hazard Mitigation Plan
Public Comment Period
The 2026 San Mateo County Local Hazard Mitigation Plan is currently being updated. Woodside Fire Protection District invites community members to review the draft plan and submit comments before the deadline.
Public comment period open: May 15 – June 15, 2026. All public comments received by June 15 will be considered in the final plan submitted to FEMA for approval. Your feedback directly shapes how our community prepares for and recovers from disasters.
About the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan
The Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) evaluates hazard vulnerabilities and outlines actions that local jurisdictions, including the Woodside Fire Protection District, will implement to minimize injuries, property damage, and community disruptions caused by disasters.
The plan addresses both natural and human-caused hazards, including wildfire, flooding, earthquake, landslides, severe weather, drought, terrorism, cyber threats, pandemics, and the impacts of climate change. WFPD participates in the countywide plan through a jurisdiction-specific annex that reflects local conditions and priorities.
An approved LHMP is required for the District and County to remain eligible for FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funding, which supports projects that reduce disaster risk throughout our community.
Review the draft plan
The 2026 WFPD draft annex is available for download below. Community members are encouraged to review the document and identify hazard vulnerabilities, mitigation actions, or local priorities that should be reflected in the final plan.
The full San Mateo County draft plan, including all jurisdiction annexes, is also available on the County OES website.
Submit Your Public Comment
Community members may share feedback online through the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services public comment portal. Comments may address hazard vulnerabilities, proposed mitigation actions, local priorities, or any other aspect of the draft plan. All submitted feedback will be reviewed and considered prior to finalization.

Attention Residents:
Please be extra vigilant on the roadways during severe weather and keep the following safety reminders in mind:
-
Avoid downed lines: Do not drive over, move, or touch downed power or phone lines, even if you believe they may be de-energized. Report downed lines immediately to emergency services or your utility company. For power outages or to report hazards, visit PG&E’s Outage Center.
-
What to do if power lines fall on your car: If a power line falls on your vehicle, stay inside, call 911, and wait for professional help. Stepping out of the vehicle could be life-threatening. Learn more at What to Do If a Powerline Falls on Your Car.
-
Respect emergency scenes: If you see emergency vehicles with lights on, traffic cones blocking the road, or personnel directing traffic to stop, please stop a safe distance behind and do not proceed until you receive specific instructions.
-
Watch for debris and flooding: Storms can bring down trees, branches, and other debris, and cause flooding. Never drive through flooded roadways—it only takes a small amount of water to sweep your vehicle away.
-
Allow extra travel time: Drive slowly, turn on your headlights for visibility, and leave extra space between vehicles. If travel is not necessary, consider delaying trips until conditions improve.
-
Be mindful of first responders: Emergency crews are working hard to clear hazards and keep you safe. Please be patient, avoid distractions like using your phone, and follow their instructions.
We’ve had several close calls this morning where individuals in a hurry put themselves—and our first responders—at risk. Your patience and cooperation are critical to ensuring everyone’s safety.
