🚫 During a Red Flag Warning: stay on high alert, monitor the news, and be ready to evacuate at a moment's notice.

Red Flag Warnings are issued by the National Weather Service when weather conditions create a high risk for extreme wildfire activity — typically strong or gusty winds combined with hot, dry conditions that increase the likelihood of wildfires igniting and spreading rapidly. Residents are strongly urged to exercise extreme caution, stay informed, and be prepared for possible evacuation.

Within the Woodside Fire Protection District, Red Flag Warnings are communicated through SMC Alerts, news outlets, and social media platforms.

What to Do During a Red Flag Warning

Review your wildfire evacuation checklist Inspect the exterior of your home and remove flammable items: leaves from roofs and gutters, wicker furniture and cushions, wood piles near buildings, and flammable doormats Make sure your family and pets are ready — keep evacuation go-kits within easy reach Ensure your vehicle has a full tank of gas or is fully charged Charge your cell phone and stay alert for emergency notifications Stay hydrated — conditions are often hot and dry		Avoid using barbecues or fire pits outdoors Refrain from any outdoor heat sources or open flames — including cooking, power tools (gas or electric), or lawn mowers Do not smoke outdoors Avoid driving or parking on dry grass or vegetation Stay clear of closed areas and remain vigilant when visiting public lands at risk for wildfire
