What CERT Volunteers Do
CERT training covers the skills volunteers need to respond effectively as a team when disaster strikes. If a disaster overwhelms local response capability, CERT members can provide critical support until help arrives — and assist responders once they do.
Fire Safety
Extinguishing small fires and identifying hazards before they escalate.
Light Search & Rescue
Locating and safely extracting individuals from damaged structures.
Disaster Medical Operations
Triaging and treating the most common injuries when medical resources are stretched.
Team Organization
Working effectively within an Incident Command structure alongside first responders.

Our Mission
Our mission is to prepare the citizens of the Woodside and Portola Valley areas to become self-sufficient during and after a major emergency or disaster. CERT members participate as an organized volunteer emergency response team that supplements first responders in times of disaster and emergency situations.
Benefits of CERT
- Increases the level of overall disaster readiness in our area
- Provides emergency skills that participants can use in day-to-day activities and emergencies to keep themselves, their families, and their neighbors safe

Get Involved
Anyone who lives or works in the Woodside or Portola Valley area is invited to take CERT training. WPV-CERT holds two Basic Training classes each year — one in February/March and one in the fall. If you have already completed CERT training anywhere in the United States, you are welcome to join the WPV-CERT team directly, as all CERT academies across the country use the same FEMA-based curriculum.
