Set

Pack your vehicle with your emergency items. Stay aware of the latest news from local media and your local fire department for updated information.

The reality is that there will never be enough firefighters, engines, or trucks to defend every home in a major wildfire. It's up to you to take responsibility for protecting your family, your home, and your community. A family disaster plan is only useful if it's completed well before a wildfire occurs. Your plan should address the needs of every member of your family or household, including pets. An escape route is a preplanned route designed to help your family get to a safe area during a wildfire. It's important to map out several in case roads are blocked or unsafe for travel.

It's not a matter of "if" but "when" the next major wildfire will occur in San Mateo County. Having checklists for inside and outside your home will make it easier to complete final tasks to protect your family and home as the fire approaches.

BEFORE A WILDFIRE STARTS

DISASTER SUPPLY KIT AND GO! BAG

Your emergency supply kit should contain enough supplies and belongings for every member of your household for at least 3 days. Your to-go bag holds items needed to help you evacuate quickly and safely.
